Matejs Kalns was raised in the Latvian community of Toronto, Canada, and holds degrees in History from the University of Ottawa, and Human Security & Peacebuilding from Royal Roads University.
He has worked in the fields of education and human rights for over ten years, with his writing influenced by his own travels and love of history. Beasts of the Night is his debut novel, receiving much positive acclaim including from Kirkus Reviews, noting that “remarkable characters headline a nerve-wracking abduction tale.” For his sophomore outing, he has returned to his familial roots and delved into the bleak world of Eastern Europe as it suffered under Soviet occupation. contact Matejs
